"As he faced the sun, he cast no shadow.." - Oasis, Cast No Shadow

WorkInProgress: October 2012
12.5 hrs...

Music and mood, untangling my moment of real and make-believe. Charaters we hear are pieces of ourselves we have not yet discovered.

I am as small as a kitten's slipper left behind the door,
stuffed between the locks mewing a little more;
I am curled up like a kitten's sock
balled up for the next play,
I am ambushed and fatigued from that which was my day.

A Passing Thought

Thank you for gifts of colour
which radiate off the page
like beams of branching light
warming our eyes and wrapping our hearts
as if we are home
as if we are not alone
as if we are together.

..."But oh how it feels so real/ Lying here with no one near/ Only you, and you can hear me"... - Elton John, Tiny Dancer

WorkInProgress: October 2012
10 Hours...

I’m in the process of writing.

The things we get pulled into as children are velvet dirt. The coating of memories we feel are like fake rabbit fur or velour.  We can't forget the itch or synthetic stich of how these projected events have built flashes of time in the scaffolding of our value network.  As I write, I rewind –

To a friend:
Thank you for helping me edit my work.  It’s important to me.  Just don’t go down the rabbit hole without a rope to bring you out.

Mistake. Correction.  Grammar.  Wording. Argh. Correction. Mis-use.  Underline...

Dear Editing Process,
Food for thought; thought for food.
It's all going to the same place anyways,
what does it matter what it looks like.

Character Description:

We always knew she was working on something secret.  She smiled at us, revered us; but when we weren’t looking, she persuaded a calm as she encouraged things that we did not let her have on her own.  We were born.  Created.  Yet, we still could not fathom, even if we wanted to, what we had done for her.

Background noise and Colourful poise

Layered ambition and clothes that drape like sheaths of religious comfort

Urban and rural,
cultural retreats

Comparing monoliths of Religion’s stare
And scars of sacred representations -
importance and need

Nature's chant is an eruption

And an island of fog fast forwarded,
wraps a blanket around the world.

What we're inspired by is the way music influences our instant thought
and prolongs the vision of ourselves.
I am growing into the sensation in my mouth like swallowing another round of air.
Isn't just incredible,
the things we do unconsciously.

Eroding time zones and flight paths

Searching yourself in everyone

At every stop
At every check point

Water no ice
Soda no ice

Complimentary anything

And the man with the chainsaw throat in front of you
And the child kicking your seat behind you

It’s not like you were doing anything with your life anyway.

To Life:

I accept your challenge to age with change, wrinkle and decay.  In return, I shall mature, change with change, prosper and grow.  All the while, creating myself endlessly. We have a deal.

On the first part of the journey, I was looking at all the life. - America, A Horse With No Name

October 2012, 6 hrs in...

The smell of sweet grass
freshly squeezed through the blades
of mechanical precision
I am listening to the electronically powered
sizzle of slicing nature’s hair-

All the while,
lightly petting,
the way this piece makes me want to tell
the other side of the story
and the way
she brings us to our knees;
not mechanical reverie
but organic, slow and glued to the growth
and mystical forlorn
of what’s really going on, on the inside.

The Mechanical Photograph

You have captured my wisdom
Woven a picture pressed into a fragment of time

One piece is missing
One factor is lingering,
But one moment is painted with colour.

In our peripheral nostalgia
Communicating breakdowns as life’s measure,
We reassemble into a state of compromise
Revealing a posture that mimics ourselves –

Our minutes consist in the hours of anticipated reunions,
Participating a palpitating heart;

Yesterday is gone but not forgotten
And tomorrow,
Captured in visual maturity
Is our sense of security.

Just because we are not in our every day
Doesn’t mean we can’t survive,
Because now is as relative as now
And I have been in love with you
For longer than then.

Step inside my House:

WorkInProgress: October 2012
4 Hrs

Friday means, back to work

The word of the day is subitize:  To perceive at a glance the number of items presented.
I see 10 trees finished and two more to go.  And I listen to Van Morrison, and I realize tonight would be a fabulous dance for a moon dance… But I need to get back to work.  Distraction rhythms with abstraction and my thoughts are just as scattered as anticipation for project deadlines that have been bumped, prodded and pealed.   Determination is focus, but today it has splayed ends like a frayed rip cord.  Almost there, almost there…. And this has nothing to do with vitamin D; temporary insanity was heat driven and I brought my cave walls down around me to pay some bills.  Back to the pens. Back to the ink. Back to the paper alighting my soul with purpose, perspective and presentation.

Innovation is the connected mind.

The Governess and her Rove

Up and down
running from the ground

looking for a place to hide,
while jumping to the sea

from lily pad to circumstance,
I am a curious shell of floating stone
curious even to me;

Idle on wet surfaces
engraved by the odd fin
like a seal in season,
I wade for tides of danger
floating for so long

basking in the under glow sitting until dawn;

It is here and now
in this oiled glow

bathing under sunburns of frangipanis’ stem
that these flowers of lost momentum
wilted like fallen rebels
have languid minds unopened
as tired as jutted roots;

Lost and breathing smoke
setting fires to armed foliage,
I have discovered
trapped in these minds of stolen hope

that water is-oh-so-sparse
and these engineers of dust,
consuming listless sprigs,

are as poignant as the green
in envy’s reflective shadow.

For a Poet in Sawhill

Some pieces are never finished
with Full-stops missing
Thoughts not tied down
like Roundabouts
circling Open ends;

If we live forever
how are we going to love each other?
She thinks.

Every time she poses this question,
she varies a response like peanut butter and honey-
or peanut butter and butter.

She can’t even decide what tastes better.

Her purpose is like travelling -
Experiencing a country new
is to travel back to that same road
resembling the first road she travelled down alone
when she ordered peanut butter and wine;

The belly of all the things floating down river
into the belly of grazing,
Nourishes what will be carried over from one state,
one country to the next-
It is the palate of all the flavours of past-days-feast.
She has thirsty eyes and decides
jam and honey will do-
She cannot assume one feeling carries over into the next
But rather
it evolves, tires and fades;

Experience is a piece of bread
worn again and again
hiding the betterment we layer in the shadows as appetite
and verse-

They are the same,
as we go round and round
Singing with various absent-minded intentions

to distract us,
Over and over and over again;

And we listen for what we want to hear-
We smell the bread in the oven
and we watch it toast and burn
Taking what we need
Talking more often than singing back,
Letting on more than we know.

Murders and Thieves

By the purse of your lips you are guilty
History’s record is fictional
Your life is trial enough
Distorted by subjectivity and feelings
You cannot hurt me anymore

My education has made me
It is unavoidable and anti-heroic
Knowledge has made me less flexible

Whining viciously
Seeking justice in tombs of allegorical fraud

Unintelligent fool
You are a fictional character
Tripping over discourse
Encountered but never understood

I was once compassionate to your quest
Accommodating and impressed
Indulgent to the energy you possessed
Holding a conviction you bestowed in all of us

Finding joy in cynicism
And roaring thoroughfares through glass-plated houses

I am tired now

Looking through these narrow slits of this jail window
I have followed you as long as I can
My nursery is shaded with vertical iron
My membrane is orange

I have no scruples
Nudging glances I exchange with my inquisition
My made mistake

Guilty persons are most attractive because they stand out largest in a crowd.
