Our Matriarch, Our Family Trees

I met Phil at a Landmark Self Expression and Leadership Program event last Saturday in San Diego, California.  He shared his family project with me and has permitted me to share it with you:

Phil's words:
I wanted to share with you the family tree project that I took on.  I was able to research my maternal roots and discovered the Native American link to the women in our family.  Our mitochondrial DNA can be traced back to this woman so, as such, I created copies of the attached tree for my sisters, their daughters and grand-daughters so that they know their maternal roots and the source of their strength / energy.  The women in my family are truly amazing.

Thank you again Phil for sharing this stunning sentiment and truly magnificent piece of art with me and my PomonaLIFE community. This piece will be cherished in your family for generations to come. Such an inspiration, brilliant!! ~a. Andrea Currie, tree artist

One tree at a time:

Everything—a horse, a vine—is created for some duty... For what task, then, were you yourself created? A man’s true delight is to do the things he was made for.

This video was taken on Saturday March 15, 2014, at TEDx as I was supporting my collaborator and friend Patrina Wisdom who presented her Spoken Word to the TEDx community. During the lunch break there were inspirational chalk pillars set up for attendees to explore.... I took the opportunity to draw my tree of love: it grows and grows, it is drawn and redrawn because it loves and loves.

Your essence. Not content. Be yourself. A Creative Project:

You:
extremely awake
but still
underneath thoughts
in between thoughts
in between words
is
the canvas on which the whole phenomenal existence is painted.

A project:
Create a piece of art using your essence as your inspiration.
Use:
pen to paper
paint to canvas
fingers to keyboard
voice to words
body to music
ingredients to recipe
Do:
Create in the space absent of thought
Let your essence be your guide
Let your heart let you decide

Working with Patrina Wisdom and Tedx Spoken Word

A couple of weeks ago, I had the honour working with my friend Patrina Wisdom on her Tedx Spoken Word talk in Encinitas, California.
The link below, is the the video footage I took during her performance on March 15, 2014.

I know you will agree with me, she is not only an inspirational motivator and leader
but she is also one authentic goddess.

Patrina, thank you for including me in helping you share your story.
You are a guide, a mentor and an amazing woman.

Be alert, be alive:

Health Affirmations, by Louise Hay

Sorrow, by Vincent Van Gogh
Seen at MOMA, NY, November 2012

To my friends a little under the weather.
Often I find that I get so consumed with my drawing,
I forget to stretch and shake up my qi! Blood flowing and positive vibes illuminate not only stress but ease the aches associated with pain.
If you're sick or have the flu, this means you too. Get up off the couch and stretch, then go back to back to bed! But you need to do more than just stretch, you have to want to feel better, you have to think better. This is where my good written friend, the words of Louise Hay comes in.
Affirmations set my intention for everything I do and everything aim to do. I accomplish because I see it as an accomplished fact, because I feel what my desired outcome is.
Words are important to me, they carry vibrations, they carry energy.
Give yourself energy! Positive healing begins with positive thoughts.
If you're feeling not-so-good, seriously try it out
what do you have to lose except your not-so-good-feeling. Clearly, it's a win a win.

Happy feeling-so-good!

Health Affirmations, by Louise Hay
Make these affirmations part of your daily routine. Say them often in the car, at work, while looking in the mirror, or anytime you feel your negative beliefs surfacing.

I get three colds every year.
I am safe and secure at all times. Love surrounds me and protects me.

My energy level is low.
I am filled with energy and enthusiasm.

I heal slowly.
My body heals rapidly.

My allergies act up constantly.
My world is safe. I am safe. I am at peace with all of Life.

Heart dis-ease runs in my family.
I am not my parents. I am healthy and whole and filled with joy.

I get one illness after another.
Good health is mine now. I release the past.

My back gives me constant pain.
Life loves and supports me. I am safe.

These headaches never go away.
I no longer criticize myself; my mind is at peace, and all is well.

I'm always constipated.
I allow life to flow through me.

I have sore feet.
I am willing to move forward with ease.

I'm always hurting my body.
I am gentle with my body. I love myself.
I give myself permission to be well.

My healing is already in process.
I listen with love to my body's messages.
My health is radiant, vibrant, and dynamic now.
I am grateful for my perfect health.
I deserve good health.

I'd like to make a video and I need your help!

Good Day shiny happy friends and Pomonians!

I have an important question and favour to ask. For all my tree art lovers and my art collaborators, I need you! It's time that I get out from behind my forest and make a video. I'm putting together an Indiegogo campaign to raise money for my reclaimed and renewable bamboo mixed media exhibit.  Let's collaborate! Let's make this for you and me, and let’s inspire our communities with our creative style and voice.

I'm putting forests on walls all over the world, celebrating and inspiring the creative process by sharing my story of how and why I create. This particular mixed media exhibit brings the outside in, and celebrates a reverence and balance between art and nature.
Too often we are cooped up in our offices surrounded by white walls and florescent lights. Art inspires and relaxes our minds, art encourages us to breathe and let go. Art like nature, encourages us to appreciate the beauty of life’s expression.

I combine my art with my affinity for trees.  The largest compliments I receive daily are in the emails and photos I get from you, my old friends and new friends, expressing that you look at trees differently now because of my art. My subjects are trees because they act as a skin for the voice that creates my story. Trees can be ancient and wise. Some witnessed the rise and fall of civilizations. They are functional and necessary for our survival because they provide us with oxygen, food and shelter. Trees are sublime, pure and beautiful, demanding nothing but a space to grow and be. They are stoic and magical, virtuous and inspiring. Trees are our life blood.

My path as an artist has been influenced by different careers, professional interests and personal struggles. My art depicts the spiral of how we live and grow in a constant flux of revisiting, revising and renewing ourselves. Like trees, we build on these layers as cycles in our individual growth, making us taller fuller and wiser.

I started my artistic journey when I lost my mother to cancer a few years ago. It was in my pen and a piece of paper that I found a peace begging to be explored.

As I produce and participate in exhibits and art walks in Canada and the United States, my goal is to share my story and voice with the world. Art is expression, art is voice. Art is healing, art is happiness.  My art is unique, my message is love.

Please msg or email: andrea@pomonalife.com for more details.
Thank you for your ongoing support and tree love, art is community!

Do you see what I see?

The thought manifests as the word; The word manifests as the deed; The deed develops into habit; And habit hardens into character. So watch the thought and its ways with care, And let it spring from love. Born out of concern for all beings.

This can be yours

Modeled for the elegant family home, or corporate interior, it brings the outside in.
Laser etched onto bamboo, its intricate design was created with as much effort.
This piece is apart of me.

The vitality of life permeates this oak tree.  May welcomes the sun and shines golden light through her finger branches.  In her grace, May is the goddess of fertility.

Nature’s creativity is her beauty.  As the rains of spring usher in green from the earth, I sit under the trees from my childhood, resting in the dirt.  I am inspired by my birthday in May: my fingers, hand and arm reach up from the earth in a continuum of life and death.

As an artist, I use my hands to express myself.   They have helped me heal, and they are blessed with all the scars and sagacity of their stories.
